THE KINDERGARTEN YEAR

Why Choose a Montessori Kindergarten in Lancaster or Northborough?

By the time your child reaches the kindergarten year at Nashoba Montessori, they have already spent two years in the same classroom, with the same teacher, building the same skills. They know how to work independently. They know how to lead. They are ready.

The kindergarten year is when all of that preparation pays off. Reading and writing click into place. Math concepts deepen. And your child steps into the role of the eldest — a model, a mentor, a leader.

THE MONTESSORI THIRD-YEAR ADVANTAGE

The Power of the Montessori Third-Year Advantage

What sets a Montessori kindergarten apart — and why families in Lancaster, Northborough and across Worcester County choose to stay.

No Transition Shock

Your child already knows the classroom, the teacher and the rhythm of the day. There is no first-day-of-kindergarten anxiety — they are already home.

Kindergarten Readiness — Built In

Social, emotional and academic kindergarten readiness develops naturally over three years. Academic work advances when your child is ready — not when the lesson plan says so.

Real Leadership Experience

Kindergarteners are the eldest in a multi-age classroom. They model, mentor and lead — building the kind of confidence that follows them for life.

“The goal of early childhood education should not be to fill a child with facts from a set course, but rather to cultivate his own natural desire to learn.”

— DR. MARIA MONTESSORI

MONTESSORI KINDERGARTEN CURRICULUM

Full-Day Kindergarten Curriculum — What Your Child Does Every Day

Our kindergarten readiness curriculum covers language & literacy, concrete mathematics, STEAM, culture and the arts — every single day.

Language & Literacy — Phonics to Reading

Sandpaper letters and phonics from earlier years give way to real reading and writing. Children compose their own stories and decode with growing confidence — on their own timeline.

Concrete Mathematics & the Decimal System

The decimal system, bead chains and golden bead materials bring advanced number concepts to life in a concrete, hands-on way before they become abstract.

Field Trips and Community Service

Real-world experiences — field trips, community service projects and a play performance — give kindergarteners ownership over their role in the wider world.

STEAM Kindergarten — Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math

STEAM has been integrated into the Montessori curriculum for over 100 years. Hands-on science, engineering challenges and art are woven into every day — not treated as extras.

African Drumming and Yoga

Our Artist in Residence brings multi-cultural music and African drumming into the classroom. Yoga builds focus, body awareness and calm. Both are part of the daily rhythm.

Leadership and Mentorship

As the oldest in the classroom, your kindergartener teaches, models and guides. That responsibility builds the kind of self-confidence no worksheet can manufacture.

WHAT PARENTS ARE SAYING

“Deciding to keep our children at Nashoba for the kindergarten year was one of the best choices we ever made. Their confidence, love of learning and readiness going into first grade was remarkable.”

IS MY CHILD READY?

Kindergarten Readiness at Nashoba Montessori

Parents often ask: “When should a child start kindergarten?” or “How do I know if my child is ready?” At Nashoba Montessori, kindergarten readiness is not a checklist — it is something we build toward every day across all three years of the Primary Program. By the kindergarten year, children are socially confident, emotionally grounded and academically curious. They leave ready for first grade — and genuinely excited about it.
